Virtues of Reciting Surah Al – Mulk

Surah Al-Mulk is the 67th surah in the Quran which consists of 30 verses. This surah was revealed by ALLAH in Mecca. Our prophet, Muhammad SAW mentioned benefits of reading this surah in various hadiths. One who is able to memorize and always recite this surah definitely has been given a huge blessing from Allah SWT.

Among the advantages of Surah Al – Mulk is;

  1. Protect Us from The Torment of The Grave

As Muslims, we believe that there is either torment or ni’mah(blessings) prepared for a person in the grave depending on his amal (good deed or worship) in this world. One can expect protection from torment in the grave if he/she is able to read this surah regularly.

“Whoever reads ‘al-Mulk’ every night, Allah will protect him from the torment of the grave. At the time of the Messenger of Allah (SAW), we used to call it al-mani’ah (that which protects). In the Book of Allah, there is a chapter [and] whoever recites it every night has done very well.”

Ibn Abbas said that one of Muhammad’s companions set up his tent over a grave without realising that it was a grave and it contained a man who was reciting the Surah Tabarakalladhi Biyadihil Mulk up to the end. He went and told Muhammad who said, ‘It is The Defender; it is The Protector which safeguards from Allah Ta’ala’s Punishment’.

  1. Rasulullah Encourages Muslim To Have Surah Al-Mulk In Their Heart

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas reported that Muhammad said, ‘It is my desire/love that Surahtul Mulk should be in the heart of every Muslim’

  1. Surah Al – Mulk Can Give Syafaah/Intercession for Those Who Always Recite

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There is a chapter in the Quran of thirty verses, which will intercede for its companion until he is forgiven: Blessed is He in whose Hand is the dominion.” (67:1)

Anas ibn Malik reported Muhammad as saying, “There is a Surah which will plead for its reciter till it causes him to enter paradise.”

  1. Prophet Muhammad SAW Read Surah Al-Mulk Every Night.

Jabir said it was the custom of not to go to sleep until he had read Tabarakalladhi Biyadihil Mulk (Al-Mulk) and Alif Laam Meem Tanzeel (As-Sajda).

He used to recite Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Al-Mulk (in Arabic) before sleeping

Surah An-nas

Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.

The King of mankind.

The God of mankind.

From the evil of the sneaky whisperer.

Who whispers into the hearts of people.

From among jinn and among people.
