10 Special Things About Holy Month of Ramadhan

As Ramadhan month arrived, many Muslims most likely to think that Ramadhan is just a month where we restrain ourselves from eating and drinking for a certain period. However, Ramadhan is way beyond that. Here we would like to focus on 10 advantages of Ramadhan.

  1. Ramadhan is a Chance to Instil Taqwa

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous

ALLAH reveals to us that fasting in Ramadhan is the keystone to achieve Taqwa in our life. Taqwa is a state of pious and righteous one possesses. The feeling of God-fearing. Those who can achieve Taqwa will be successful in life both in this world and hereafter.

“For those who have Taqwa there is Triumph (Paradise).” (Quran 78:31)

  1. Satan (Devils) are Chained During Ramadhan

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “When the month of Ramadhan starts, the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained. -” Sahih Bukhari 31:123

According to some ulama, strong Satan has been chained but not small and weak Satan. This explains why people still sins during Ramadhan, plus there is an inside desire which is nafs (lust) that always encourages human beings to do bad deeds. However, still, this blessed month of Ramadhan helps to protect us from doing sins easily compared to other months.

  1. Night of Lailatul – Qadr

There is one night in Ramadhan which is better than 1000 months. Whoever did amal on that night will get a reward as he/she is doing worship for 1000 months.

Laylat (night) Al Qadr is a night better than a thousand months,” verse 37:3

  1. The door of Forgiveness is Widely Open

In this blessed month, the door of forgiveness is opened widely by ALLAH and we need to ask for forgiveness more frequently in this month.

  1. Ramadhan is the Month of Qur`an.

Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadhan to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Besides, a lot of stories show that Salafussoleh which are pious people of the first century of Islam was reciting, memorizing and exploring Quran a lot more during the time of Ramadhan.

  1. Charity Should be Increased During Ramadhan

We should do more charity in this blessed month as the Prophet (peace be upon him) was the most generous of people, and he was even more generous in Ramadhan.

As narrated by Ibn Abbas: “The prophet was the most generous of all people, and he used to be more generous during Ramadhan

Tarawih prayers are only being dedicated in Ramadhan. This prayer is performed after the Isya’ (night) prayer. We should take this opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Allah through these prayers during Ramadhan.

One of the Sunnah of the Prophet during Ramadhan is to practice I’tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadhan until he dies. This ‘Amal has been followed by his wives later.

In Ramadhan, we can experience the feelings of hunger faced by the poor. This kind of feeling could help us to be more sensitive and responsible for the poor.
